Metro running on regular schedule Tuesday, additional staff will be on hand

WASHINGTON -

The extreme cold will make the Tuesday morning rush one to remember, especially for commuters who ride Metro rail and bus.

In a statement from Metro, they say, “There isn't much that can be done in advance to "prep" for cold weather, but we will have additional maintenance staff on duty so that we are able to better respond to any issues that arise. As you know, steel rails expand and contract with changes in temperature, and when you have dramatic temperature swings, there's the potential for rail cracks or breaks. If a crack or break is detected, we will need to temporarily take that section of track out of service until repairs are made."

"To minimize wait times at bus stops or on outdoor station platforms, we would encourage riders to make use of Metro's NextBus and Next Train features on our mobile site. Simply go to wmata.com from your smartphone browser and touch "NextBus" or "Next Train."

Riders can also access NextBus information by calling 202-637-7000.
